Frequently Asked Questions

A comprehensive FAQ document is being developed and will be posted here soon. In the meantime, here are some common questions:

When will this change take effect?
The Amazon Business punchout in AggieBuy will go live on September 1, 2025.

Will I still be able to use my procurement card for Amazon purchases?
No. After September 1, 2025, payments will be made via electronic invoicing in AggieBuy, eliminating the need for procurement card use or reconciliation for Amazon orders.

Will all Amazon products be available through the Amazon Business punchout?
Most common business items will be available. However, certain categories such as digital downloads, gift cards, alcohol, subscriptions, and wireless services may not be available.

What do I need to do to prepare?
Attend one of the informational sessions and watch for emails in July with instructions for transitioning your account.

Can I still use my existing Amazon account?
After September 1, 2025, all business-related purchases must be made through Texas A&M’s Central Amazon Business punchout. Personal or separate departmental accounts should no longer be used for purchases.

How will this affect departmental budgeting and financial reporting?
Departments will see more streamlined financial reporting as all Amazon purchases will flow through AggieBuy. This provides better visibility into spending patterns and simplifies reconciliation. Budget managers should note that the payment method change from procurement card to invoice may affect the timing of when expenses hit departmental accounts.

How do I know what type of Amazon account I have?
Each person will fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Amazon Consumer account holder
A non-Amazon Business account that is accessed with a tamu.edu email address
  1. Amazon Business account holder
An Amazon Business account that is independent of the university’s Central Amazon Business account
Will have a yearly Business Prime membership fee associated with it
  1. Central Amazon Business account holder
You have access to the university’s Central Amazon Business account
  1. No Amazon account
You do not use your tamu.edu email address to access any Amazon accounts

How do I merge my account?
If you currently use a tamu.edu email for an Amazon Consumer or non-central Amazon Business account, you’ll need to merge with the Central Amazon Business account.

Depending on your account type:

  • Amazon Consumer: Update your email to a personal address if the account has been used for personal purchases.
  • Amazon Business (non-Central):
    • Merge your account with the Central Amazon Business account or close the account
    • Any unused subscription balance or Business Prime membership fee will be refunded to the original payment method
  • Central Amazon Business: Already linked to the university’s centralized account
  • No Account: You don’t use a tamu.edu email on any Amazon account

Non-Amazon account holders will be automatically added into the Central Amazon Business account on September 1, 2025.
